Following the sun-blushed subtlety of his last album ‘Cute Melody, Window Down!’, 96 Back dons the shutter shades and takes a sharp left-turn with ‘Laco’ / ‘Cross This Heart’, a new two-track single of gungey, sleazy, filter-heavy goodness.

As neon in spirit as the text on the cover art, this is 96 Back at his best, combining techy drum mechanics with the sort of wide-eyed sample and synth work that could’ve fallen off a Paris to London Eurostar in the mid-2000s, in the best possible way.

It marks the Sheffield-born, Manchester-based artist’s sixth release on Local Action in three years, the latest in a run that’s seen him gather support from some of the scene’s biggest names (Jamie xx, Loraine James, Bradley Zero) and collaborate with the likes of Skee Mask, Special Request, Iceboy Violet and Henzo.
